Local support for lifelong creativity

Home and Community

Shirley is a folk singer and creative who has performed across the world but still sings every fortnight at the Creswick Folk Club she founded years ago.

She’s happiest at home in Ballarat. This is the place where she creates – jewellery, music and occasionally, pottery.

At 83, Shirley’s creative pursuits still get her out of bed, but everyday tasks have become harder. She treasures her home and wants to stay there, with a little extra support.

Shirley lives with arthritis, mobility issues and other health challenges.  Determined to keep living well at home, Shirley turned to Uniting AgeWell Grampians Home Care for support.

Uniting AgeWell’s Ballarat office is run by big-hearted locals who care deeply about the area—just like Shirley. The team is actively involved in the community and builds genuine connections with the people they serve.

Shirley gets Support at Home with cleaning, cooking and escorted shopping trips and transport to other appointments and events.

“Three home care workers come to my home on different days of the week,” Shirley explains. “They’re lovely and each bring something in their different way.”

That extra care gives Shirley more time for what matters most: finishing her visual memoir and creating her gemstone and metal jewellery. And when she shares stories from years gone by, her care team know the places and people she’s talking about.

For the second year running, Uniting AgeWell has been voted the most trusted Home Care brand in Victoria and Tasmania in the highly regarded Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands Survey.

If you or someone you know could use a little extra support to keep living well at home, call (03) 5326 0700 to chat with Uniting AgeWell’s Ballarat team or join us for a chat and cuppa at one of our upcoming information sessions on July 9 or 30.
