Steve Wright, 77, served a year in Vietnam, involved in the logistical side of the war.  As a Private in the army, he played a vital role in coordinating the food supply and dealing with essential supplies sent in for the Australian and New Zealand troops. “An army marches on its stomach too.”

The Launceston resident survived by his bravery and knowing the love of his life, his late wife Di, was waiting in Australia for him to return home.

Steve, will be attending the Vietnam Veterans Day celebrations on August 18. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan and honours the sacrifice of the nearly 60,000 Australians who served in the war, who were mostly young men.

Steve is a CHSP client who receives home cleaning services through Uniting AgeWell. His wife Di lived with dementia, but was able to stay at the home they loved until her death thanks to the excellent care she received from her Uniting AgeWell home care team.

Home Care Worker Carmen Marsh, who looked after Di, was regarded by the couple as their “fourth daughter.”

Steve will forever be grateful to have made it home to Di and to have lived a long and happy life with her at home, until her passing.
