A new chapter for aged care
The Aged Care Act 2024 effective from Saturday, 1 November 2025 focuses on rights-based, person-centred care.
The Act strengthens the definition of high-quality care with a single assessment process, a new Statement of Rights and improved support to encourgage greater provider transparency and protection for whistleblowers.

Standard one. The person.
Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity, respect and live free from discrimination. You can make decisions about your funded aged care services with support as needed. Your dentity, culture and choices are valued and influence how services are delivered.
Standard two. The organisation.
Your aged care provider is well managed. Customers can contribute to enhancing care and services with staff who are skilled, attentive and responsive to their feedback and concerns.
Standard three. Care and services.
The funded aged care services you receive are safe, effective, well-planned and coordinated, enhancing your independence, quality of life and personal preferences while respecting your right to take risks.
Standard four. The environment.
You feel safe receiving services in a clean, comfortable and well-maintained environment with safe equipment and infection prevention measures in place.
Standard five. Clinical care.
You receive personalised, evidence-based and coordinated care from skilled health professionals and staff that addresses evolving clinical needs while aligning with your goals and preferences.
Standard six. Food and dining.
You receive a variety of nutritious, appetising and safe food and drinks that meet your needs and preferences. Your aged care provider should create an enjoyable dining experience that fosters a sense of belonging.
Standard seven. The residential community.
You feel supported to pursue your goals and maintain relationships. You have confidence in the continuity of your care and the security of your accommodation.
Statement of Rights
As part of the Aged Care Act 2024, the Statement of Rights will replace the Charter of Aged Care Rights.
