The Uniting AgeWell team in Ballarat is buzzing with excitement.  Every week, they welcome new customers and actively contribute to their local community, bringing fresh energy to the crew at the Albert Street, Ballarat Central office. 

“I’m passionate about what we do for our customers every single day,” says Program Manager Chris Armon. “We cover a vast area, and older people need reassurance that no matter where they live—on farms, in remote communities, or in large cities like Ballarat—we’re there for them through thick and thin. Or, to be honest, through floods, hail, extreme heat, and freezing cold. Life in regional Victoria is beautiful, but it can also be harsh!” 

The team also loves meeting remarkable people like Lyn and Leigh Zeuschner and their adorable fur-baby, Charlie. 

After 53 years of marriage, Lyn and Leigh still cherish their sunlit, airy unit in a Ballarat retirement village. The name on their front door says it all: ‘Haven’. 

The couple feels confident about the future, having made thoughtful decisions that will help them continue living independently together as they grow older. 

“When I was approved for a government-funded home care package, I received a list of aged care providers to choose from,” Lyn explains. “I asked around and kept hearing great things about Uniting AgeWell. I liked that it was a church-based not-for-profit organisation. But honestly, once I spoke to the wonderful team, I stopped looking. They were so helpful and supportive—I couldn’t wait to sign up.” 

Lyn remains happy with the ongoing support she receives. She and Leigh are even planning another caravanning adventure in the coming weeks. The team is also helping her transition to the government’s new Support at Home program, which will replace Home Care Packages on 1 November 2025. 

Chris Armon believes that heartfelt care and service make all the difference. “Everything we do is grounded in our values of kindness, respect, integrity, innovation, and inclusion. We apply these not only in our interactions with customers but also in how we support our staff to grow and thrive in their roles.”
