Residential Care
New chapters of your life can open at any stage – just ask Tim Harnett.
The 93-year-old retired lawyer has been a resident at Uniting AgeWell Strathdon Community for several years and has earned the title of “Custodian of the Library”.
He completely reorganised and revamped the library, from being a crowded space containing rows and rows of bookshelves to the inviting sunny room it now is – complete with a chair to relax in.
Tim also sorted through the books, removing any tatty ones, sorting through the contributions and filing them in the new easy-to access bookshelves which line the walls.
The library is his domain – and he loves it. Tim volunteers in the library for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, opening and closing the room, packing away books and sorting through new ones.
He still reads a great deal and loves most genres.
“I’m quite content here at Strathdon Community,” says Tim. “The staff are all very kind.” He also enjoyed attending the special lunch for volunteers held at Strathdon Community during National Volunteering Week. He appreciated the certificate he received as well as a leather keyring – small mementos of Uniting AgeWell’s appreciation to say, “thank you for volunteering Tim!”
