A snapshot of history

Residential Care
The rich history of Uniting AgeWell Camberwell Community, Condare Court has been captured in a booklet – much to the delight of residents and staff.
The history goes back nearly 60 years when the Burwood Congregational Church received a bequest from the J.E. Dare Estate for the “Establishment of a Home for Elderly Folk”.
The name ‘Condare’ was derived from ‘Con’ from congregational and ‘Dare’ from the bequest. The church made available the land at the rear of the manse. The land was previously used as a tennis court, resulting in the name Condare ‘Court’.
The launch of the booklet, produced by Uniting AgeWell, was celebrated on Friday 19 September with residents, families and staff invited to drinks and nibbles at Condare Court.
Everyone had a wonderful evening, with live music performed and excerpts of the booklet read out oud by residents. One of those attending was Jan Searle, the daughter of the late Alfred Clack. The AE Clack Wing is named after Alf for his lifetime of service to the church and for 16 years as Chairman of the Condare Court Council.
A display cabinet that provides a visual snapshot of the history of the site is also in the foyer.
