Denise Drysdale a smash hit at Amarco

Denise Drysdale a smash hit at Amarco

Denise Drysdale proved why she is a much-loved Australian icon when she spent the morning entertaining guests at Uniting AgeWell’s Amarco Apartments.

The dual Gold Logie winner had the crowd in stitches as she regaled them with tales of her time on TV, acted out being a gorilla, sang a few songs and even lounged in an alcove to illustrate a yarn.

Denise then joined the appreciative crowd for a late morning tea – dispelling the Diva myth by serving guests and cleaning up rubbish.

Yarraville resident Juliette attended the event after reading about it in her local paper.

“She’s very funny and makes us happy,” she said.

Eileen received a pamphlet about it and decided it was a great opportunity to meet Denise and find out more about Amarco, Uniting AgeWell’s independent retirement living apartment complex in Kingsville.

“She was brilliant,” she said. “She just got everybody going, we couldn’t get enough of her.

Denise said she still loved entertaining people after decades in the business.

“They have grown up with me,” she said.

She also raved about Amarco, and encouraged people to move into retirement living to really get the most out of their later stages of life.

“Anyone who’s been a bit hesitant about coming in because they value their independence and their life at home, when they come into this place they start a new life – and it’s the best thing,” she said.

“All of a sudden they have got a new group of people they can spend time with. They’re in an environment where they’re not on their own."

“I think you gain a lot moving into retirement living.”
