Volunteer Geoffrey Willis has been playing the organ for church services at Uniting AgeWell Strathdon Community for an incredible 57 years.
The 82-year-old was a member of the Vermont Uniting Church and started playing the organ during church services when Strathdon Community first started
He’s played for services ever since. Of course he was there when the site transitioned to become Uniting AgeWell Strathdon Community. He was also a member of various planning committees, including helping plan the building of the new wing at the site.
“I enjoy volunteering,” Geoffrey says. “Over the years I’ve met many people and become friends with them, especially the chaplains. I guess I would have played thousands of hymns over the years.”
The retired electronics engineer, now attends the Whitehorse Uniting Church. He started playing the organ at the age of 15.
Geoffrey enjoyed the special lunch held for volunteers at Strathdon Community during National Volunteer Week from 19-25 May, as well as the certificate of appreciation and of course a special gift.
Thanks Geoffrey. Your dedication and kindness is hugely appreciated!
