Her Excellency, the Governor Kate Warner, to get exclusive insight to Mornington’s Cottage Club

May 10, 2016

Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AM, Governor of Tasmania, will be presented with hand made teddy bears by seniors at the Uniting AgeWell Cottage Club Community this Wednesday, May 11, from 10.30-11.30am, which she will then give to a children’s charity of her choice.

Her Excellency and Mr Warner will then share a cuppa and a few laughs at a special morning tea with clients at the Cottage Club Community. This will be followed by a tour of the Day Centre to experience the social support and activity groups it provides to older people in the community.

Uniting AgeWell Tasmania Coordinator Community Services, Lee Marsh says the Cottage Club Day Centre, funded by the Commonwealth Home Support Program, offers centre-based care to older people to maximise their independence and provide respite for carers.

“The centre offers a range of programs, including social support groups, guest speakers and outings for its clients,” she said.

“Our programs provide an opportunity for seniors to exercise, learn about health and socialise.

“The Cottage Club runs six in-house programs, five days a week and one Saturday program a month and an outreach program at Risdon Vale each Friday.

“One of our groups has been making their own champagne from rhubarb as part of their program.

“We are using rhubarb grown from our very own garden at the club and the champagne is to die for!”

The Cottage Club is located at 281 Cambridge Road, Mornington
