Blanket Run to keep homeless warm this winter

June 17, 2016

Uniting AgeWell’s Ningana Community is calling on the greater community to dig deep this winter and support its inaugural Blanket Run for Hobartians in need.

The aged care service in Sorell is gathering donations of winter essentials like blankets, pillows and bedding, which will then be delivered to local charities for distribution to people doing it tough during the colder months.

Uniting AgeWell Project Officer, Ken Harris says they have joined forces with the Military Brotherhood Motorcycle Club, a veteran’s motorcycle club in Hobart with years of experience in these events, to hold the Blanket Run on Sunday, July 3.

“The Ningana Community feels it is important to help others this winter because there are many people who have far less than we do,” Ken said.

“It is showing kindness to those in less fortunate situations than ours.”

The event will start at 9am at Ningana with a hot barbeque breakfast before the riders leave at 10am.

Entry is a donation of items such as blankets and bedding for the homeless. The bikers will ride more than 50km across Hobart distributing the winter essentials, finishing at New Norfolk.

Uniting AgeWell Ningana is located at 1 The Circle Sorell.
